Lee Edward McDaniel III, 72, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 30, 2016.

Son of the late Lee E. McDaniel Jr. and Willena Ballard McDaniel, he graduated from Hampton High School and continued on to receive a bachelor’s degree in management from Old Dominion University and an MBA from Golden Gate University.

He was a longtime member of Kings Grant Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher to hundreds of children over the years, and most recently on the pastoral search committee. Lee also served as president of the Princess Anne Plaza Civic League, and was a member of the Virginia Beach Tax Relief for the Elderly and Disabled Program Taskforce, appointed by the mayor.

Lee was passionate about sports, particularly baseball and football. He played baseball while attending ODU, and he served as a football official and referee with the Southeastern Football Officials’ Association for 41 years.

Left to cherish his memory: his wife, Shirley T. McDaniel; daughters, Ashley Williams and her husband Matt, of Atlanta, Ga., Courtney Lemasney and her husband, Mark of Tequesta, Fla., and Megan McDaniel-Bailey and her husband Andrew, of Fredericksburg, Va.; sister, Frances McDaniel of California; brother, John Merton McDaniel of Hampton, Va.; and grandchildren, Austin, Sydney, Carrigan, Brogan, Waverly, and Bexley.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at Kings Grant Baptist Church, 873 Little Neck Rd., Virginia Beach, by Dr. Sanford Martin. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Benevolent Fund at Kings Grant Baptist Church.
