Police: Man critically injured during Naval Station Norfolk crash

A man was critically injured Sunday morning when he crashed his car into the main gate of Naval Station Norfolk.

Norfolk police tried to stop the man on Hampton Boulevard, near Terminal Boulevard, around 4 a.m., but officers lost sight of him when he sped away. The man crashed his Nissan into the main gate of the naval station, located on the 9200 block of Hampton Boulevard, according to a Norfolk Police Department news release.

First responders took the man, who was critically injured, to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. No one else was in the car with him.

Norfolk police did not respond immediately to a call for information on Monday morning.
