The Elizabeth River Trail reopened over the Midtown Tunnel last week after about three years of being closed for construction.
The ERT is a walking and biking trail created using several former railroad right-of-ways. The 10.5-mile trail provides easy access to Downtown Norfolk, Fort Norfolk, Chelsea, West Ghent and the Norfolk Naval Base.
The ERT has been operating under detour since 2013 due to the expansion of the Midtown Tunnel. The new trail features a redesigned bridge crossing, as well as connections to the newly-opened Norfolk bike loop, according to a city news release.
